Local journalists and photographers got a special chance to accompany Gorman & Company’s Wisconsin Market President, Ted Matkom, to tour Edison School Apartments before the affordable senior housing community officially opens.
Reporters walked the hallways as students once did to ask questions about the historic preservation project located at 5372 North 37th Street in Milwaukee and how it will soon serve seniors and families within the county.
Edison School is an adaptive reuse project of a former Milwaukee school. Originally built as North Milwaukee High School in 1924, the structure with the same lockers, doors, and windows will once again impact lives 100 years later. This time by offering affordable housing solutions.
Sixty-three classrooms are now 63 one- and two-bedroom units serving senior community members. Seniors qualify if they are at least 55 years old and make between 30% and 60% of the Area Median Income (AMI).
On the same property, we are proud to partner with Cupid Development, which has 12 new family townhomes, each featuring three bedrooms. These homes, designed with families in mind, are located near the neighborhood’s shops and restaurants, making it easy for residents to access almost everything they may need.
