James Malone is a disabled Veteran who experienced homelessness in 2017. Through a shelter, he learned about Valor on Eighth, an affordable housing community offering extensive supportive services for Veterans and their families in Tempe, Arizona. Without any hesitation, Malone applied for an apartment. Once settled in, Malone felt at home, confident in his future for the first time in a long time.
“I love this place. It’s the only place where you and your kids can start all over again.”

Gorman & Company, in partnership with the City of Tempe and ARM (Affordable Rental Movement) of Save the Family, developed Valor on Eighth with Veterans like Malone in mind. While there are security nets for Veterans, many still fall into homeless situations, straining personal relationships.
Our supportive service partner, Save the Family Foundation, assists Valor on Eighth residents based on needs, such as before and after school care, computer and job training, job search assistance, credit and financial counseling, and more. Veterans like Malone feel secure accessing resources without stigmatization and gain independence.
“…I can start helping myself and bringing myself back together.”
