In a groundbreaking ceremony, Butler Street Community Development Corporation (BSCDC), Red Rock Global, and Gorman & Company came together to announce their partnership in a multi-phase, mixed-use, historic preservation development – Sweet Auburn Grande.
Designed to revitalize the historically significant Sweet Auburn neighborhood, Sweet Auburn Grande will offer a vibrant, inclusive, and accessible space honoring the community’s rich culture and history. In its first phase, Sweet Auburn Grande will boast 109 multifamily units, 92 of which will be affordable and reserved for households earning at or below 30%, 50%, or 80% of the area median income (AMI). The remaining 17 units will be available at market rates.
It’s not just housing bringing these historic corridors new life. On the development’s ground floor, 8,700 square feet will be dedicated for retail space and parking, serving as an excellent retail location to serve Georgia State University students and Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park visitors. Plus, Gorman & Company will restore and preserve historic architectural elements of the former Atlanta Life Insurance Building (229 Auburn Avenue) and incorporate a new public greenspace, Good Trouble John Lewis Memorial Park, honoring the legacy of the civil rights icon.
Through the power of public-private partnerships, Sweet Auburn’s streetscape will soon see a new era. Thank you to our financial and supportive partners for your unwavering dedication to Atlanta’s treasured neighborhood.
“Our partnership with Gorman & Company ensures this vision will come to life in a way that benefits everyone.”
