Barrier-free units have roll-in showers, enhanced, accessible cabinet design, rooms and corridors designed to accommodate wheelchair maneuverability, and extra-wide garage spaces to park accessible vans and other vehicles.
Kenosha Commons Apartments Homes is a 100-unit mixed-income development that targets 52 of its units to households with physical disabilities. Kenosha Commons demonstrates the best of public and private partnerships. Gorman & Company’s non-profit development partner in Kenosha Commons Apartment Homes is Kenosha-based Equal Access to Affordable Housing (EAAH). Kenosha Commons integrates 48 units designed for the disabled and 52 units market rate units.
Glendale Enterprise Lofts in Glendale, Arizona is comprised of 28-unit, mixed-income, loft apartment development designed to integrate families with disabilities into the mainstream rental market. Glendale Enterprise Lofts was designed utilizing 'Universal Design' principles, the building features 100% accessibility and 'visit ability'.
Gorman and Company has developed both Glendale Enterprise Lofts and Lofts at McKinley in partnership with Arizona Bridge to Independent Living (ABIL), the state’s largest provider of disability services. ABIL has committed to provide referral and support services for residents with a physical disability. Lofts at McKinley was designed with universal design principles and will be 100% accessible for the physically disabled.
Jane Addams is an entire campus, comprised of 38 units, focused on serving Rockford, Illinois’ physically and mentally disabled population. It too, was developed with the advice of an advocacy group, Regional Access and Mobilization Project, Inc. (RAMP). RAMP promotes an accessible society which allows and expects full participation by people with disabilities.
