The Amerock Hotel and Convention Center is the centerpiece of a 112 million dollar “CityHub” major downtown redevelopment, including the transformation of the Historic Amerock Building into a four-star hotel and convention center, an indoor sports facility, indoor and outdoor parking facilities, a newly-designed riverside park and outdoor event space along with integrated road and bridge improvements. This mixed-use development will transform the historic Amerock building into a modern four star business hotel boasting a rooftop deck and cocktail lounge, spa, indoor pool and fitness center, as well as leased office and retail space. The Amerock building has a rich history that is intricately intertwined with the history of the city itself. Originally built in 1915 by William Ziock Jr, what is today known as the Amerock was then known as the Ziock building and housed a manufacturer of textiles. The building was the highest building in the city and immediately became known as a local landmark. The building itself was built to very high standards and included recreation and kitchen facilities for the workers and advanced fireproofing, a rarity at the time. In the 1930’s the building became the headquarters of the Amerock company, a manufacturer of cabinetry equipment. As Amerock grew, it came to occupy the whole building and in 1945 purchased the building outright. Amerock went on to become the largest manufacturer in the category of kitchen cabinetry equipment in the US, May 13, 2011, the building was officially added to national registry of historic places in recognition of its historic and cultural value.
